Development
Fitness
This squad is for swimmers who would like to train to improve and maintain fitness but do not want to compete at swim meets. Swimmers in this squad are aged over 12, understand the fundamental techniques and skills, and are capable of self-directed training.
Junior Competitive
Swimmers in this squad are typically aged under 13, proficient in all the fundamental techniques and skills, and have begun competing at a local level. Swimmers will be taught more advanced technique and skills, and will begin to learn how to train to be a successful senior swimmer. Swimmers will also begin basic dryland training with a focus on injury prevention, movement patterns, team building and correct warm-up procedures. The main goal for this squad will be qualifying for regional junior meets and the Makos Junior Festival.
The senior squad is typically for swimmers aged over 13, who have mastered skills from the Junior Competitive squad and demonstrate readiness for senior training. They'll focus on refining technique, mastering advanced racing tactics, and enhancing fitness through intensified training. Dryland sessions include strength, endurance, and flexibility work. Goals include local, regional, or national pool competitions, open water events, triathlons, and qualifying for national meets like NZ Open, NZ Short Course, NZ Age Group (NAGS), and Division 2 Championships.
